Please read these terms carefully before using our website or placing an order.

Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using the Antiques & Coins website (antiquesandcoins.co.za) or placing an order, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service, our Privacy Policy, and all applicable South African laws and regulations. If you do not agree with any part of these terms, please do not use our website or services.

These terms constitute a binding agreement between you and Antiques & Coins Exchange, a company registered in the Republic of South Africa.

Product Listings & Accuracy

We make every effort to accurately represent items listed on our website. However:

  • Photographs are representative and may show differences in colour, patina or tone due to photographic lighting.
  • Weights and dimensions are approximate unless stated as certified measurements.
  • We reserve the right to correct errors in pricing or product descriptions without prior notice.
  • If an item is listed at an incorrect price due to a typographical error, we reserve the right to cancel and refund the order.

Pricing & Payment

All prices are quoted in South African Rand (ZAR) and are inclusive of VAT where applicable.

  • Prices are subject to change without notice, particularly for items whose value is linked to spot gold, silver or market rates.
  • Payment is accepted via EFT, Yoco (secure card processing), and cash for in-store purchases.
  • Online orders must be paid in full before dispatch. Items are not reserved until payment is confirmed.
  • We reserve the right to request proof of payment before processing an EFT order.

Authenticity & Grading

Antiques & Coins takes authenticity seriously. All items sold are either:

  • Verified by our in-house certified appraisers, or
  • Accompanied by third-party grading certificates from recognised authorities (NGC, PCGS, etc.).

We provide a full money-back guarantee on any item subsequently proven to be fraudulent or materially misrepresented. Claims must be supported by a report from an accredited grading authority and submitted within 30 days of purchase.

Free Appraisals

Our free appraisal service is provided as a courtesy and for informational purposes only. Appraisal opinions:

  • Are non-binding and do not constitute a formal offer to purchase.
  • Reflect estimated market value at the time of appraisal and may change.
  • Do not constitute insurance valuations (for which a separate formal valuation certificate may be requested at a fee).
  • Are provided for items brought in person, submitted by photograph, or sent for physical inspection.

Purchasing Items

When you purchase an item from Antiques & Coins, the following conditions apply:

  • A binding contract of sale is formed once payment is confirmed and an order confirmation is issued.
  • Ownership and risk of loss transfer to the buyer upon delivery and signature of receipt.
  • Items listed as “one of a kind” or “final sale” cannot be returned unless defective or fraudulent.
  • Buyers under the age of 18 must have the consent of a parent or guardian.

Selling Items to Us

When you sell an item to Antiques & Coins, you confirm that:

  • You are the legal owner of the item and have full right to sell it.
  • The item is not stolen, subject to any third-party claim, or under any court order restricting its sale.
  • All information provided about the item (provenance, condition, history) is accurate to the best of your knowledge.
  • You understand that our offer is based on current market conditions and is valid for the period stated.
  • Once a sale is concluded and payment made, the transaction is final and the item becomes property of Antiques & Coins.

In terms of the Prevention of Organised Crime Act, we are legally required to record the identity of sellers of second-hand goods. A valid government-issued ID is required for all purchases made from the public.

Intellectual Property

All content on this website — including text, photographs, videos, logos, design elements and product descriptions — is the intellectual property of Antiques & Coins or its licensors and is protected by South African and international copyright law.

You may not reproduce, distribute, modify, or create derivative works from our content without prior written consent. Sharing links to our product listings is permitted and encouraged.

Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Antiques & Coins shall not be liable for:

  • Any indirect, incidental or consequential loss arising from the use of our website or products.
  • Loss of value of items due to market fluctuations after purchase.
  • Courier delays, damage or loss where the item was properly packaged and handed to a reputable carrier.
  • Website downtime, technical errors or inaccurate product information caused by third-party systems.

Our total liability in any matter arising under these terms shall not exceed the purchase price of the item(s) in question.

Privacy & Data Protection

We are committed to protecting your personal information in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA). We collect and process your data only for purposes necessary to fulfil orders, respond to enquiries, and improve our services. We do not sell or share your personal data with third parties, except where required by law or for order fulfilment.

Governing Law & Disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa. Any disputes arising from these terms or any transaction shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the South African courts.

We encourage clients with complaints or disputes to contact us in the first instance at info@antiquesandcoins.co.za. We are committed to resolving disputes amicably and promptly.

Changes to These Terms

We reserve the right to update these Terms of Service at any time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated “Last Updated” date. Continued use of the website after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
